Seinan Gakuin

Attending SGU and Staying in IHouse 

Seinan Gakuin University is a Christian University located in Nishijin, Fukuoka, Japan. It is about a 10 to 15 minute walk from the beach and is located directly in the city (not on the outskirts). 

      I will be staying in SGU's International House (aka IHouse). Each student in IHouse gets their own dorm room that includes a twin size bed, a bathroom and wash station (a sink and a mirror), a desk and your own personal balcony. There is a lot of shelf space and you may also have the option of renting a Japanese futon. What many of my friends have told me is that you want to rent the futon (which is originally meant for the floor) and place it on top of the bed for extra padding. I have heard the beds are a little hard which I am not quite used to so the futon will be nice. Not to mention that they are super warm!

 This is my room that I finally decorated after running to a store called Daizo that saves your life. almost everything there is 100 yen so about 95 cents in American currency. I bought towels, soap, laundry things, and other small necessities. I cannot find a normal pillow to save my life though. I had to buy a fuzzy Hello Kitty pillow because that was all I could find near by.  But it matches so i'm happy. :)

Ihouse is very beautiful. It doesn't feel like a typical dorm. Everyone in Ihouse is really nice and it's fun to sit in the kitchens or the lobby and hang out together. The first night I got here I already was welcomed and was taken out for Okonomiyaki. I love how clean it is.  once a month we have cleaning duty where we have to clean our entire floor by ourselves and we switch off. There is a vending machine on the first floor so sometimes I go downstairs and chill out with all the soda drinkers. The only bad thing about Ihouse is that you can hear EVERYTHING outside of your door, but you can't really hear people inside their rooms from outside. So we have to be careful to be quiet at night if we are going to be in the lobby or kitchen.
